What's with the CD?
About a month ago someone wrote in another thread on this site that RDC only charged what the CD cost to produce. Why is Cinderella a different price than the recital?
Seems someone is making money off the parents.
Makin money off parents??
What do you call $10 a ticket to see you kid dance AFTER paying tuition, AFTER purchasing tights, AFTER a "costume" fee.
And if that wasn't enough, I can bake cookied for my child to sell back to me at the recital.
Forgot the flowers? No problem. RDC to the rescue with them also.
Yes someone is makin money off the parents.
Maybe the not for profit status needs evaluation. If not for profit what for?
This place can nickel and dime you to death. They hide behind their cheap tuition. Charge extra for everything. Then the price looks better in the brochure. For me, I would just rather know and pay the price once.
Oh,I get it.
You guys can bitch about the dance company's little errors all you want. And complain about ticket prices that are suppossedly hidden costs (they've always charged admission to the school production, peeps).
But you have self-righteous ability to devote an entire thread to mocking someone who seemed to think they were explaining the structure/faults of Rockford? Petty much?
And, like me, I really doubt that any of you know enough about running performing arts not-for-profits to evalute RDC's status as a 501-3c.
You don't need an accounting degree to evaluate a not-for-profit's books. The information SHOULD just be there. MOST not-for-profits PROVIDE data to their patrons and supporters. NPR talks about their costs openly. RSO openly publishes data on the expenses of their productions. Artists Ensemble publically talks about the cost of a show, and how much of it is ticket sales.
What does RDC do? Nothing!!!
What was the cost to produce Cinderella?
How much were ticket sales?
What did the RDC carpenter (Cindy's husband) make?
What were the costs for Nutcracker?
Props, labor, lights, costumes, etc.
What did RSO pay us?
What is the rental for Boylan?
300 students +/-, times an average of 2 parents and 1 child/grandparent per student, times $6 per ticket = $5,400??
Again, is this really what it costs to rent Boylan?
Maybe if RDC were transparent with its finances it would not be an issue.
Maybe if the board did its job and secured GRANTS and donations and sponsors, tuition would be adequate. Look at the on-line forms (www.guidestar.org). RCD has lost funding. Yes the money must come from somewhere. It seems the attitude is to stick it to the parents.
What's a peeps?
This week they are in need of volunteers.
What gives?
I can give my time, AND purchase a ticket to see my child dance?
Don't bitch you guys.
This is a non-profit organization that relies on volunteers to get work done. Can you imagine the price of a ticket if they had to pay all the volunteer help?
Nobody could afford to dance if it came to that.
